INGREDIENTS:

7 oz ( 200 g ) marzipan
15 - 20 plums
3/4 stick ( 80 g ) soft butter
1 cup ( 200 g ) regular sugar
1 1/3 cup ( 150 g ) all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
2 eggs
2 oz ( 60 g ) hazelnuts


Heat your oven to 175°C / 347°F. Line the bottom of a 18 cm/7 inch cake pan with baking paper, and butter the sides. Slice the plums and remove the stone. Set aside. Chop the hazelnuts very finely, either by hand or in a food processor. Whip the eggs and sugar until pale and fluffy. Mix in the soft butter. Grate the marzipan and add it to the whipped sugar and eggs. Now mix in the flour, baking powder and chopped hazelnuts. Pour half of the mixture into the cake pan. Put as many sliced plums into the mixture as you feel like. Pour the rest of the mixture over, put the rest of the plums on top and carefully push them a bit into the cake mixture. Sprinkle 1 tsp of sugar on top and bake for 1 hour. Let the cake cool off a bit and add some powdered sugar (optional). Serve it slightly warm.
